Principal's Corner

Dear Canaan Middle School Families,

Welcome back!  We have had a fantastic start to the 2026-2027 school year at Canaan Middle School. It was wonderful seeing so many familiar and new faces at our open house events. Our students have done an incredible job kicking off the year, and our 4th graders have already proven to be a wonderful addition to the CMS team. As everyone settles into their daily schedules, we are building great routines across all our classrooms.

Our school year got off to an energetic start with a special visit from the Jonathan Alder Marching Band. They performed a preview of their halftime show for our students, which is always an exciting highlight of the fall season.

Looking ahead, we have a few important events and dates to keep on your radar. Students will be taking their fall MAP assessments on September 1st and September 3rd. We simply ask that our students rest up and give their best effort so we can measure their progress and support their learning journey. We look forward to seeing all the growth they will show throughout the year through their hard work.

Please note that there will be no school on Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day.

September will also bring two exciting opportunities for student involvement. On September 9th, we will officially kick off our annual CMS Cookie Dough Fundraiser, which directly supports all of our CMS club experiences. Shortly after, on September 11th, students will have the opportunity to select their club choices for the semester. We will be sharing more details about the available club options with students in early September.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership, support, and Pioneer spirit as we launch into a wonderful school year together!

Mr. Walter, Principal
Canaan Middle School
